How Your Muscles Work

Your body has many muscles. They help you move all day. Muscles are strong parts under your skin. Try to bend your arm. Feel the muscle in your upper arm get hard. That muscle is working!
Muscles work by pulling. They do not push. When a muscle pulls, it gets shorter. This makes your bones move. Many muscles work in pairs. One muscle pulls a part of your body one way. Then another muscle pulls it back.
Think about walking. Your leg muscles pull to lift your foot. Then other muscles pull to put it down. This happens very fast! All your muscles work together. They help you run, jump, smile, and even blink. You use muscles for almost everything you do!
